Account · deletion
Delete your account.
You can delete your Unload Thoughts account yourself, from inside the app, without asking us and without waiting for anyone to action it. This page explains exactly how, exactly what goes, and the two narrow things that stay.
Before you start
Deletion is immediate and permanent. There is no recovery window and no support ticket that can bring it back. If you want a copy of anything, export it first — step two below.
Deleting it in the app
01
Open Settings
In the web app at app.unloadthoughts.com, open the menu and choose Settings. On iPhone or Android, open the drawer from the top-left and choose Settings.
02
Export first, if you want a copy
In the web app, under Data, tap Export everything. You get a single JSON file containing every capture, task, note, checklist, habit, countdown and learned fact, plus download links for your audio and attachments. The iPhone and Android apps link out to the same place. Do this before deleting — afterwards there is nothing left to export.
03
Scroll to Danger zone
At the bottom of Settings, under Danger zone, tap Delete account.
04
Confirm
Type delete my account to confirm. If you sign in with a password, you will also be asked to re-enter it. Then tap the delete button. It happens immediately — there is no waiting period, no confirmation email, and no way to undo it.
05
If you signed in with Apple, one last step
Everything above is deleted either way. But Apple keeps its own record of the connection between your Apple ID and this app, and only you can remove that. On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings → your name → Password & Security → Apps Using Your Apple ID, then choose Unload Thoughts and stop using Apple ID. Nothing here depends on it, and skipping it leaves none of your data behind.
If you no longer have the app
You don’t need to reinstall anything. The web app at app.unloadthoughts.com runs in any browser and has the same Settings screen, so signing in there is the fastest route. If you cannot sign in at all, email privacy@unloadthoughts.com from the address on the account, with the subject Account deletion request. We will verify that the request came from the account holder, delete the account, and confirm by reply. We action these within five working days and always within the 30 days the law allows.
What gets deleted
Both the account and the data. Not deactivated, not hidden — removed from our database and file storage.
- Your account and sign-in details, including Google and Apple connections
- Every capture — audio recordings, transcripts, and typed thoughts
- Every task, reminder, note, checklist, idea card and project
- Every habit, its full completion history, and every countdown
- Everything the app had learned about you
- Uploaded files: voice recordings, images and attachments
- Your registered devices, so notifications stop reaching them
- Your display name, settings and preferences
What we keep, and why
Three things, none of which contain anything you wrote or recorded.
Records of payments
Tax and accounting law requires us to keep a record of money received. Your identity is stripped out and replaced with a meaningless reference that cannot be traced back to you. It contains no capture content. Kept for seven years, then deleted.
Security logs of administrative actions
A log that the subject of it can erase is not a security log. We keep the record that an action happened, with the email address redacted. It contains no capture content.
Encrypted disaster-recovery backups
Our database provider keeps encrypted backups. Your deletion applies to live systems immediately, and ages out of those backups within 30 days. Backups are never used to restore an individual deleted account.
Your subscription is separate
If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, they bill you, so deleting your account here does not cancel it and does not stop it renewing. Cancel it where you bought it first:
- iPhone or iPad — Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions
- Android — play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions
- Subscribed on the web — email billing@unloadthoughts.com and we will stop it.
Full detail on what we store and why is in the privacy policy. For anything else, the support page is the place to start.
